About the Recipe
This is the REAL DEAL, down-home Southern monkey bread. I only make it for 2 or 3 holidays per year because it is rich and addictive!
Ingredients
1 1/2 package of dry yeast
3 T. sugar
1 C. soft butter (plus another stick melted)
3 well-beaten eggs
1 tsp. salt
1 c. whole milk
4 c. flour
1/4 c. warm water
Preparation
Dissolve the yeast in the warm water.
Mix together the dissolved yeast, milk, eggs, butter, sugar, and salt
Flour should be added slowly until the dough stops feeling sticky.
Let rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours in a covered bowl.
Knead down and let rise again for 1 hour.
Roll out dough on a floured surface, cut with a biscuit cutter, dip each piece in the melted butter, and stack in a bundt pan.
Let rise again for about an hour.
Bake at 350 for one hour.
Invert onto a plate. Serve immediately.
